Inspecting the 50uL Syringe Plunger Video

This video provides instructions for inspecting the 50uL Syringe Plunger on the ADVIA® 2120i Hematology System.

Turn the power off to the analyzer. Open the front doors of the analyzer. The Arbisi, Baso Redtick syringes are on the right side of the instrument. And the peroxy ringes around the left side of the instrument? The sheets syringes, sometimes referred to as waste syringes on each side of the instrument, are the syringes that pulled the sample an chief and send it to waste. On the RBC base Oretic side, the sheath syringes the furthest to the right as outlined on the peroxide. The sheath syringes to the left as you see outlined. The sample syringes are inboard of the sheath syringes and closest to the UFC on both sides. Manually turned the thumb wheel below the syringe counterclockwise until the plunger is lowered, about half an inch. Disconnect the tubing from the top fitting. And then disconnect the input. And output fittings from the syringe head. Remove the nut and washer that secured the syringe at the top. Slide the syringe barrel down toward the bottom of the carriage. Then remove. Warning the 50 microliters syringe plunger has a small plastic bushing inside the syringe. When replacing this plunger, never pull the plunger through the small bushing. This action will cause damage to the plunger tip. Use a small bent paper clip to pop the bushing out of the syringe completely. Remove The Dirty plunger from the syringe. Do not remove the white bushing from the plunger or the plunger from the stainless steel barrel bushing on the bottom. Using a soft lint free tissue, gently wipe the plunger tip. Make sure all debris is removed from the grooves of the tip. Thoroughly rinse the syringe barrel with a 25% solution of household bleach and rinse with water using a squirt bottle. Make sure to clean the input port threads with clean water also. Slide the cleaned plunger into the syringe. Use a little Saline solution if necessary. Reseat the small plastic bushing into the syringe barrel. Then replace the plunger. Clean the threads of the connectors with DI water. Insert the bushing end of the syringe plunger into the slot at the bottom of the carriage. Slide the syringe up and into the mounting hole in the pump drive frame with the input port facing left on the RBC Baso Redtick channel and facing right on the Perox channel. Install the washer. An knurled nut and hand tighten the nut. Reconnect all the tubings to the syringe fittings. Turn on the analyzer power. After the instrument gets to the ready to run state, check the Analyzer's performance by checking Saline background counts, running a whole blood primer, an running controls, check for leaks, an air bubbles if necessary. Re tighten all fittings and verify the connection of all hydraulic lines.
