Maintenance includes performing the daily, weekly, monthly and as needed maintenance procedures to ensure optimum system performance. This clinical laboratory training qualifies for continuing education units (CEU).

Listed below are the key points that have been presented.  Take time to review the material before you proceed to the final quiz.  After completing this course, the operator will be able to: Locate, review and update the Maintenance Window The Maintenance window can be accessed by selecting the Maintenance Status button in the Status area of the workspace.  A list of maintenance tasks and their due date are listed in this window.  To start automated maintenance procedures, highlight the task and select Perform.  To update the window once manual tasks are performed, select the procedure and then select Completed. Describe how to access procedures through Online help Maintenance procedures are accessed by selecting the task in the Maintenance window and selecting Procedure. List the steps to perform daily maintenance procedures After the Cleaning Solution is prepared and the consumables are checked, highlight Perform daily cleaning in the Maintenance window and select Perform. Rotating the water bottle is necessary on systems that are not direct plumbed to avoid bacterial contamination. Describe how to perform weekly maintenance procedures Clean the water bottle, water reservoir and manifold: Select Turn Mechanics off and remove the water bottle and water reservoir from the system.  Remove the manifold from the reservoir.  Clean the bottle, reservoir and manifold with cleaning solution and thoroughly rinse with DI water. Prime water from reservoir to manifolds, highlight Prime water from reservoir to manifolds in the Maintenance window and select Perform. Replace Cleaning Solution: Remove the cleaning solution bottle from the system.  Pour one container of cleaning solution concentrate into the cleaning solution bottle.  Fill the bottle to the neck with DI water and place onto the system.  Update the Maintenance window by selecting Replace cleaning solution and pressing Completed. Empty the Water Trap: When the system is not in process, pull out the waste and water drawer and observe the water trap.  If any liquid is present, remove the water trap from the system and empty. List the steps to perform monthly maintenance procedures Clean reagent probes: Turn mechanics off, remove the reagent probe cover and move the probes toward the incubation ring.  Clean the probes with cleaning solution and rinse thoroughly with DI water. Clean ancillary probe:  Turn mechanics off, open the top cover and pull the probe toward you.  Clean the probe with cleaning solution and rinse thoroughly with DI water. Clean aspirate probes:  Turn mechanics off, open the top cover and carefully lift the probe arms up to the highest position.  Wipe the visible portion of the probes with cleaning solution and rinse thoroughly with DI water. Clean air filter : Remove the air filter from the back up the system.  Rinse the air filter with DI water and allow it to dry thoroughly.   Monthly cleaning procedure: Prepare 4L of cleaning solution in the water bottle, empty water reservoir and empty liquid waste bottle. Rinse the water bottle and fill with 2L DI water.  Empty the water reservoir if necessary. Rinse the water bottle and the water reservoir.  Fill the water bottle with 2L of DI water. Place the alternate water bottle and water reservoir on the system. Describe the as needed maintenance procedures Clean reagent probe shutter: Turn mechanics off, remove the reagent probe cover and reagent packs.  Push the reagent probes toward the incubation ring and remove the reagent probe shutter.  Clean with cleaning solution and rinse thoroughly with DI water.  Reinstall the dry reagent probe shutter and reagent packs.   Clean cuvette chute: Open the cuvette waste area door, lift the tip tray bin and remove the cuvette waste bin.  Remove the cuvette waste chute and soak in cleaning solution for 5 minutes.  Clean the chute with the large maintenance brush and rinse with DI water.  Replace the dry cuvette chute on the system.   Clean tip waste area: Turn mechanics off and lift the top cover.  Remove the sample tip waste tube and sample tip remover.  Open the sample tip waste door, remove the cleaning solution bottle and sample tip waste bin.  Remove the sample tip waste chute.  Soak the sample tip waste tube, sample tip remover and sample tip waste chute in cleaning solution for 5 minutes.  Use the large maintenance brush to clean these items and rinse thoroughly with DI water.  Replace the dry components on the system.   Schedule database maintenance: In the Maintenance window, highlight Perform database maintenance and select the Perform button.   Perform system backup: Open Data Administration from the Setup menu.  Insert CD to top CD drive.  Select All and then Backup.    Select Next to continue. Remove Reservoir TubingHTML Disconnect the water tubing fittings and set them on paper towels (1 and 2).  Place Spare Reservoir on SystemHTML Place the spare reservoir on the system. Reconnect tubing and reinstall sensors. Turn Mechanics OnHTML   Select Turn System Mechanics On from System Status menu.    Select Clean Water Bottle and ReservoirHTML Select Clean water bottle and reservoir. Select Completed. Perform Prime Water from Reservoir to ManifoldHTML Select Prime water to reservoir and press Perform.  Remove the ManifoldHTML Loosen the 3 knurled captive screws and remove the manifold from the reservoir. Empty any water from the reservoir.  Clean the ReservoirHTML Pour 1L of prepared cleaning solution into the reservoir. Place the cleaning solution cover on the reservoir. Invert the reservoir and swirl. Soak the inverted reservoir for 5 minutes. Rinse the ReservoirHTML Swirl the solution and soak upright for 5 minutes. Thoroughly rinse the reservoir with DI water at least 3 times. Invert the reservoir to dry. Clean the ManifoldHTML Empty the fluid from the tubing using a transfer pipette. Fill the tubing with cleaning solution using a transfer pipette. Soak for 5 minutes. Empty the fluid from the tubing using a transfer pipette and rinse thoroughly at least 5 times with DI water. Place on the counter to dry. When complete, select the X in the upper-right corner to close the window and continue. Pull out the waste and water drawer to access the water trap. Unscrew the water trap and dispose of any liquid. Install the water trap lid and place the water trap on the system. Log the Maintenance Procedure From the Maintenance window: Select Empty the water trap Press Completed When complete, select the X in the upper-right corner to close the window and continue. The maintenance status button changes color to indicate to the operator when procedures are due. The system may also perform a defragmentation at this time.   To perform Database Maintenance: Select Perform database maintenance in the Maintenance window. Select the Perform button. Select Next to continue. System backup: Software is backed up to a CD or DVD Perform as required Note: This procedure can not be performed while the system is processing samples. Perform Database Backup Learn how to backup the database.
