Cios Select (with FD) System Safety Online Training

This training module will introduce you to the safety components of the Cios Select flat detector system.

Welcome to the Cios Select System Safety Online Training Module. In this module you will learn about the safety features of the Cios Select system. In addition you will learn about: Operating the system to avoid collisions Activating the Emergency stop button Radiation protection System warning messages Please note: The information in this module should not be seen as a replacement to the safety information outlined in your operator manual.   Congratulations. You have completed the Cios Select System Safety Online Training course. Listed below are the key points that have been presented. Download and print a copy of the Course Review System labels: Labels are placed on your Cios Select to provide you with information and to guide you to areas of potential danger Labels may be: Guidance labels: For example, the arrow labels that help you to align system components Warning labels: For example, the Hand crush hazard label in areas of possible collision Moving the system: As the operator, you must take care to avoid collisions when moving the Cios Select. There are no system mechanisms to prevent collision Only move the system and components when the potential for collisions can be visually observed Apply the brakes after positioning to avoid unintentional movements Do not use the system on inclined surfaces where accidental movements could occur Always use the handles during transport and positioning Emergency stop: The emergency stop button is located on the back end of the C-arm main unit You activate the emergency stop by pressing the button When activated the following system functions are affected: Motorized vertical movements are immediately blocked Radiation is interrupted All other system functions are unaffected by the activation of the emergency stop button To release the emergency stop button, lightly turn the button clockwise so that is pops out Radiation Lock and Unlock: To prevent unintentional radiation release your Cios Select has a lock-out option for radiation release If required, a passcode can be configured so that only authorized persons can set exposure parameters and release radiation To lock and unlock radiation release, press the Lock X-ray button on the control panel You configure the passcode for radiation release in the User Settings If the icon does not appear in the User Settings, the passcode must be configured by Siemens Healthineers Service  Operating areas surrounding the system: You should consider the scatter radiation values in each operating area when positioning yourself and other personnel. There are detailed tables available in your Operators Manual to provide guidance regarding the scatter radiation values in each operating area Radiation Protection: For to the patient: Collimate the image: Keep the radiation field as small as possible Use radiation protection on the patient (gonadal shields) when possible Remove radiopaque parts from the field of view if possible For the Operating Room personnel: When possible, move away from the areas surrounding the system where scatter radiation is present Wear protective clothing in the control area. The use of lead vests, lead jackets, X-ray protection goggles, sternum protection and protective gloves is recommended Radiation indicator: During X-ray release, the radiation indicator on the top of the monitor trolley is illuminated Additionally, the radiation indicator on the bottom left of the control panel lights up If there is a failure of the radiation indicator, please notify Siemens Healthineers Service  Monitoring dose: The fluoroscopy time and the cumulative dose area product (DAP) are displayed in the information area on the left monitor In addition, the fluoroscopy time is shown on the control panel As an alternative to displaying the cumulative DAP, the air kerma and the cumulative air kerma value can be displayed At the end of the examination, a dose report is available in DICOM format to send to the network node: DICOM Dose SR: Structured Report (DICOM SR) DICOM SC: Dose report as an image with 'burned in' text  Error and System messages: When a malfunction occurs, error messages appear on the control panel and on the left monitor display Read the error and information messages carefully and follow the guidance provided. To acknowledge the message, select OK Labels are placed on your Cios Select to provide you with information and to guide you to areas of potential danger. There are no system mechanisms to prevent collision. Pay attention to the following: Only move the system and components when the potential for collisions can be visually observed Apply the brakes after positioning to avoid unintentional movements Do not use the system on inclined surfaces where accidental movements could occur Always use the handles during transport and positioning   Hints for avoiding collisions Hints for avoiding collisions Tab TitleTextTransporting the system Check that the C-arm angulation and orbital position are set to the zero degree position Lower the C-arm vertical lift to the lowest position Check that Horizontal axis is moved all the way back Check that the power cable is secure on the C-arm side handle and the footswitch is secure at the back of the main unit Move the system into the Operating Room Ensure that the path of movement is free from obstructions Although the wheels are fitted with cable deflectors, it is best to avoid cables on the ground ​Do not position the system on inclined surfaces greater than 5 degrees Position the C-arm for examination Use the system only if the patient and other persons can be observed during movements Take care when positioning the C-arm with surgical drapes Apply the brakes after adjusting the C-arm position The EMERGENCY STOP button is located on the back end of the C-arm main unit. You activate the emergency stop by pressing the button. When activated, the following system functions are affected: Motorized vertical movements are immediately blocked Radiation is interrupted All other system functions are unaffected by the activation of the EMERGENCY STOP button. Motorized C-arm movements are immediately blocked Radiation is interrupted If the EMERGENCY STOP button has been pressed, radiation can still be released manually and the brakes can be actuated manually. Deactivate the EMERGENCY STOP To deactivate the EMERGENCY STOP, lightly turn the button clockwise. The button pops back out. In alignment with the ALARA principle (As Low as Reasonably Achievable), you should take measures during the examination to help reduce radiation dose to the patient and personnel. Limiting fluoroscopy time as much as possible is an effective measure to reduce dose. Further notes should be observed to keep the radiation dose for the patient and personnel as low as possible.   Radiation protection notes Radiation protection notes Tab TitleTextFor the patient Collimate the image: Keep the radiation field as small as possible Use radiation protection on the patient (gonadal shields) when possible Remove radiopaque parts from the field of view if possible Remove the scatter radiation grid if the image quality is sufficient without it. The grid should always be removed for pediatric patients less than seven years of age For the Operating Room personnel When possible, move away from the areas surrounding the system where scatter radiation is present Wear protective clothing in the control area. The use of lead vests, lead jackets, X-ray protection goggles, sternum protection and protective gloves is recommended Learn about the fluoroscopy timer Learn about the fluoroscopy timer Tab TitleTextFluoroscopy warning times 5 minutes After five minutes of fluoroscopy time (total) a warning alarm sounds.   10 minutes After ten minutes of uninterrupted fluoroscopy time, radiation is terminated. It can however be released again.   Please note: The settings for the alarm are country-specific and can be set by Siemens Healthineers service. Deactivate the fluoroscopy timer alarm When the fluoro timer alarm sounds, you can reset the timer from the control panel. Press the button. The audible warning signal is deactivated and the fluoro timer is reset. The fluoroscopy time is displayed in the information area on the left monitor and on the control panel. If the optional dose measurement chamber is installed, the cumulative dose area product (DAP) is displayed in the information area on the left monitor.  As an alternative to displaying the cumulative DAP, the air kerma and the cumulative air kerma value can be displayed. At the end of the examination, a dose report is available in DICOM format to send to the network node: DICOM Dose SR: Structured Report (DICOM SR) DICOM SC: Dose report as an image with 'burned in' text   Learn how to export the Dose Report Learn how to export the Dose Report Tab TitleTextOpen the 'Export' dialog box To check if the export settings include the dose report, open the 'Export' dialog box. Click on the icon on the left monitor display. Select the Dose Report export settings Select the format of the dose report to export: DICOM Dose SR: Structured Report (DICOM SR) DICOM SC: Dose report as an image with 'burned in' text Please note: To successfully export the Structured Report to a network node,  the network node must support DICOM SR. Default settings You can configure the settings so that the dose report is selected to send as default. Open the Export Dialog, select the target and the Dose Report, DICOM Dose SR or DICOM SC. Check the option: Set as Default. Now the dose report will be automatically selected for export to the configured network node. If Autosend is configured, the dose report will be exported when the patient is closed. During X-ray release, the radiation indicator on the top of the monitor trolley is illuminated. Additionally, the radiation indicator on the bottom left of the control panel lights up. If there is a failure of the radiation indicator, please notify Siemens Healthineers Service. To prevent unintentional radiation release your Cios Select has a lock-out option for radiation release. If required, a passcode can be configured so that only authorized persons can set exposure parameters and release radiation.   Please note: Setting the radiation release passcode is optional and can be configured by Siemens Healthineers Service.     Configure the passcode Configure the passcode Tab TitleTextOpen the user settings Press on the Settings button on the control panel The Manage Tool is displayed on the left monitor display Select the icon to open the User Settings Select the Radiation Release Passcode icon Click on the icon to open the settings for the Radiation Release Passcode. Hint: If the icon is not available in the User Settings, the passcode must be configured by Siemens Healthineers service. Set the Radiation Release Passcode Enter the old passcode Enter the new passcode (four digit number) Confirm the passcode Click on OK Please note: When setting the passcode for the first time, the old passcode will be the default passcode 0000. If you forget the passcode, please call Siemens Healthineers Service so that it can be reset. Lock/unlock radiation release with passcode Lock/unlock radiation release with passcode Tab TitleTextSelect the button on the control panel Press the Lock X-ray button on the control panel to lock radiation release. Passcode entry dialog If configured, after selection of the Lock X-ray button, the passcode entry dialog is displayed on the control panel. When Lock X-ray is activated: Exposure parameters cannot be set Radiation release is not possible Unlock X-ray with the passcode Enter the passcode (four digit number). Exposure parameters can be set Radiation can be released with the hand switch and the footswitch To keep the lock in place and close the dialog box, press on the Keep Radiation Locked button. Hint: If you mistype the passcode, you can delete your entry by pressing the Del button. Lock/unlock radiation release Lock/unlock radiation release Tab TitleTextSelect the button on the control panel Press the Lock X-ray button on the control panel. Lock X-ray dialog A dialog appears on the control panel and on the left monitor display. To lock X-ray, select the Lock radiation button. To cancel the lock select the Keep radiation unlocked button. After Lock X-ray is activated, the Lock X-ray button appears bright on the control panel. Unlock X-ray dialog To unlock X-ray, press on the Lock X-ray button on the control panel. The dialog box opens on the control panel and on the left monitor display with the information that Radiation is currently locked. Select Unlock Radiation or to keep the radiation locked select, Keep radiation locked. Examinations may be performed in the illustrated operating areas of the Cios Select. You should consider the scatter radiation values in each operating area when positioning yourself and other personnel. There are detailed tables available in your Operator Manual to provide guidance regarding the scatter radiation values in each operating area.   X-ray tube assembly at the top X-ray tube assembly horizontal   When a malfunction occurs, error messages appear on the control panel and on the left monitor display. Read the error and information messages carefully and follow the guidance provided. Prior to doing this you should transmit or save the log files and write down the following information: The error number and the time that the error occurred. The operating mode selected Was radiation activated when the error occurred? Is the error related to an operating process?   Transmitting error messages If SRS is configured and connected on your system, you can transmit the error messages directly to the factory. Alternatively you can save them to USB. To open the dialog to transmit the error messages, right click on the information icon on the left monitor display. Send to factory or save to USB If SRS is configured and your system is connected, you can send the log files to the factory directly. Alternatively, you can save the required log files to USB. It is also possible to enter a comment. The comment should include some information regarding the error. Confirm with OK.
