Performing a Visual Urinalysis Test Using Mutistix Test Strips Video

This video provides instructions on how to perform a visual urinalysis test using the Multistix® test strips, including how to set up the test strips, read the pads, and manually record the results.

This video is to demonstrate how to perform a visual urine chemistry test using the Siemens Multistix family of urine reagent strips in order to perform this test, you'll need to prepare the following materials. A urine sample collected in a clean, dry container such as a test tube, a bottle of multistix strips, such as a multistix 10 SG or Multistix SG, a clean paper towel, and rubber gloves. A Clock or timer in order to time the results accurately. Pen and paper or other recording method to capture results. Begin by removing the cap from the multistix bottle and take out a single reagent strip. Place the reagent strip on your clean paper towel and replace the cap on the bottle and set it aside. Pick up the urine sample and tilting the sample slightly. Insert the reagent strip, fully, immersing all reagent pads. Once all reagent pads have been immersed in the sample, slowly remove the strip, being sure to drag the edge of the strip along the side of the sample container as you remove it. In order to remove excess urine, pick up the multistix bottle and compare the color of the reagent pads on the test strip to the corresponding row of color blocks on the bottle label. Read each pad at the time shown on the label. For example, when looking at the glucose reagent pad, be sure to read the color after 30 seconds of elapsed. Be sure to hold the strip closely to the color blocks on the bottle under good light to ensure accurate matching. After each reagent pad has been read, record the results. After all results have been documented, dispose of the strip and report results according to the procedures specified at your lab facility.
