Dimension Vista® System Probe Replacement Online Training

Each probe type performs a specific function and its performance is verified daily through a Probe Test. This clinical laboratory training qualifies for continuing education units (CEU).

Identify each probe type and the function it performs Identify necessary steps to replace each probe type on the Dimension Vista® System List the possible reasons for why a probe should be replaced Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: Select Next to continue. Probe Types on the Dimension Vista® System: Aliquot Probe IMT Probe Reagent Probe Reagent Preparation Probe Sample Probe Note: The number of Reagent and Sample probes is different on a Dimension Vista® 500 and 1500 System.     Dimension Vista® System 500 Probe Types Learn about the different probe types on the Dimension Vista® 500 System. Tab TitleTextAliquot Probe The Aliquot Probe is located on the left end of the Aliquotter Arm.  The primary function of the aliquot probe is to transfer a specific quantity of sample from a sample tube or cup to one or more wells on the Aliquot Plate.  It is also responsible for transferring QC or Calibrator Vial samples from the storage ring to one or more wells on the aliquot plate.  The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent sample carryover.     IMT Probe The IMT Probe is located on the left end of the Sample Arm. The primary function of the IMT probe is to aspirate sample from the Aliquot Plate and dispense into the IMT port where a 1:10 dilution with V-LYTE® diluent is made. It is also responsible for preparing all dilutions made to any sample, as well as preparing dilutions for calibrations on the system. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent sample carryover. TIP: Since the IMT probe performs dilutions for the Dimension Vista®System, it is critical that the aspirated sample volume is dispensed accurately by the probe.  A Dilution Check confirms the accuracy of the IMT probe and must be run whenever the IMT probe is replaced or the peristaltic pump tubing is replaced. Reagent Probe  The Reagent Probes are located on the Reagent Arms. The primary function of the Reagent Probe is to aspirate reagent from the Flex® reagent cartridge and dispense it  into the cuvette or LOCI® vessel for processing. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent reagent carryover.   Reagent Prep Probe The Reagent Prep Probe Assembly is located on the right end of the Aliquotter Arm. If a reagent requires preparation prior to use (hydration or mixing), the Reagent Prep Probe is responsible for dispensing water or transferring liquid reagent into the appropriate Flex® reagent cartridge well.  It then uses an ultrasonic motion to thoroughly mix the reagent. Some Flex® reagent cartridges require a re-mixing if the solution has settled.  The Reagent Prep Probe will perform the remix as needed. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent reagent carryover. Sample Probe The Sample Probe is located on the right end of the Sample Arm. The Sample Probe is responsible for aspirating sample from the Aliquot Plate and dispensing into the cuvette or LOCI® vessel for processing. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent any sample carryover. When complete, select the X in the upper-right corner to close the window and continue.      Dimension Vista® System 1500 Probe Types Learn about the different probe types on the Dimension Vista® 1500 System. The primary function of the IMT probe is to aspirate sample from the Aliquot Plate and dispensing into the IMT port where a 1:10 dilution with V-LYTE® diluent is made. It also is responsible for preparing all dilutions made to any sample, as well as preparing dilutions for calibrations on the system. The primary function of the Reagent Probe is to aspirate reagent from the Flex® reagent cartridge and dispense it into the cuvette or LOCI® vessel for processing. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent reagent carryover. Note: There are 5 Reagent Probes on the Dimension Vista®1500 System.    Reagent Prep Probe The Reagent Prep Probe Assembly is located on the right end of the Aliquotter Arm. If a reagent requires preparation prior to use (hydration or mixing), the Reagent Prep Probe is responsible for dispensing water or transfering liquid reagent into the appropriate  Flex® cartridge well.  It then uses an ultrasonic motion to thoroughly mix the reagent. Some Flex® cartridges require a re-mixing if the solution has settled.  The Reagent Prep Probe will perform the remix as needed. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent reagent carryover. Sample Probe Sample Probes 1 and 2 are located on Sample Arm 1. Sample Probe 3 is located on the right end of Sample Arm 2. The Sample Probe is responsible for aspirating sample from the Aliquot Plate and dispensing into the cuvette or LOCI® vessel for processing. The probe is cleaned thoroughly after each sampling to prevent any sample carryover. Note: There are 3 Sample Probes on the Dimension Vista® 1500 System.  When complete, select the X in the upper-right corner to close the window and continue.     Congratulations.  You have completed the Probe Replacement Online Training Course.  Before proceeding to the assessment at the end of this course, review the following key points regarding probes on the Dimension Vista® System.  Identify each probe type and the function it performs: Aliquot Probe – Transfers a specific volume (aliquot) of sample from a tube or cup and dispenses it into one or more wells on the Aliquot Plate.  It also transfers certain reagents, QC, and Calibrator Vial samples from the storage ring to one or more wells on the Aliquot Plate. IMT Probe – Aspirates sample from the Aliquot Plate and dispenses it into the IMT Port where a 1:10 dilution is made using V-LYTE® diluent.  It is also responsible for preparing dilutions for any sample or calibration as needed. Reagent Probe – Aspirates reagent from the Flex® cartridge and dispenses it into the cuvette or LOCI® vessel for processing. Reagent Preparation Probe – Dispenses water or transfers liquid reagent into the appropriate reagent well when a reagent requires hydration or mixing.  The probe uses an ultrasonic motion to thoroughly mix the contents.  The contents for some reagents may settle in the well and require a re-mixing which is performed by the Reagent Prep probe.  It also evacuates expired reagents from the well and disposes in the waste disposal. Sample Probe – Aspirates sample from the Aliquot Plate and dispenses it into the cuvette or LOCI® vessel for processing. Note: The number of Reagent and Sample Probes is different on the Dimension Vista® 500 and 1500 Systems. List the possible reasons for why a probe should be replaced: A probe may become bent and fail the alignment check during the Probe Test. A probe may crash and generate a process error during routine processing. An alert is displayed that indicates the Reagent Preparation Probe needs to be replaced soon. A step that may be required during Calibration or Quality Control Troubleshooting.     Identify necessary steps to replace each probe type on the Dimension Vista System: Pause the instrument by selecting the Pause button under the Operation menu Select Advanced > Diagnostics > Maintain Probes Select the required probe, and then select the Maintain Selected Probe button on the screen Select Inspect/Replace Probe. Possible reasons requiring probe replacement include:   A probe may become bent and fail the alignment check during the Probe Test. A probe may crash and generate a process error during routine processing. An alert is displayed that indicates a probe needs to be replaced soon. A step that may be required during Calibration or Quality Control Troubleshooting   Tip: The Cuvette Wash Probes and Cuvette Wash Probe Dryer Boots do not have results displayed on the Probe Test screen.  An alert will display and a process error will be present in the Active Process Error Screen if replacement is necessary.  Refer to the iGuide for additional information on how to replace these probes.   Select Next to continue.
