Insert Test Card and Enter QC Lot Number: A. Configuration takes about 15 seconds. B. Enter the QC Lot # which can be read on the Controls Box. C. Fully insert the Test Card using a smooth, single motion allowing bar-code to be read properly. The blue arrow should be facing up and towards the Reader. Card insertion will be confirmed. D. Collect control solution with a syringe: A. To transfer Control Fluids from an ampoule to the Test Card, Siemens recommends plain 1-mL or 3-mL syringes and 16-20-gauge blunt needles. B. Carefully draw over 1mL of fluid from the bottom of the ampoule. C. During the draw, air may remain entrapped between the syringe plunger and the fluid. Never attempt to expel it. This air is far enough as to not affect the solution near the tip of the syringe. However, an air bubble traveling though the sample would contaminate it through- out its entire volume. D. Whenever a stream of air bubbles is drawn into the syringe, or an air bubble gets nested near the syringe tip, discard both the syringe and the ampoule. Begin again with a new syringe and ampoule. Apply Sample: Before injecting fluid in the Test Card, expel a few drops from the syringe. Remove the blunt needle and apply the syringe luer in the Test Card sample introduction port as during a normal blood test procedure. Inject sample when the epoc® System is ready. A. Using downward pressure, secure syringe tip into the sample entry port, rotating syringe a 1/4 turn to ensure proper seal. B. Maintaining downward pressure, depress syringe plunger in a smooth, continuous motion until you hear a single beep which indicates that adequate volume has been introduced to the card. C. When adequate volume has been introduced to the card, the epoc® Reader will display a flashing green light. D. The Host screen will indicate the sample is being analyzed along with the time to completion. E. The test will complete, and begin calculating the results. Check values are in range: A. Value Assignments are lot and software (sensor configuration) specific, and appropriate Value Assignment Datasheets (VADs) must be used. Value Assignment Datasheets contain target values and acceptable ranges for Aqueous Control and Calibration Verification Flu- ids specific to the epoc® System. B. Download the current Value Assignment Datasheets at:  www.healthcare.siemens.com/blood-gas/blood-gas-systems/epoc-blood- analysis-system (Customer Resource Center) C. Never use Target Values or Ranges from the package insert included with Control Fluids. D. Each Value Assignment Datasheet is identified by the:  Fluid Name, Level, Lot Number, and epoc® System Sensor  Configuration Version  VADs change with sensor configuration changes and changes to control fluid lot numbers. Assure all information is correct when using a VAD to determine acceptability of your results.
