Handling Hemoglobin A1c Samples Video

This video provides instructions on how to properly handle Hemoglobin A1c samples on your DCA Vantage® Analyzer, including specimen collection and preparation for analysis.

When handling or processing samples, be sure to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves. Use universal precautions when working with bio hazardous materials. A blood sample may be obtained by finger stick or vena puncture. Sample analysis must begin within 5 minutes after the capillary is filled with the sample. If obtaining the sample by a finger stick touch only the tip of the capillary to a small drop of blood until the capillary is filled. If the sample was obtained by Vinny Puncture, hold the capillary at an angle and fill the sample from the tube cap. Wipe the outside of the glass capillary using a lint free tissue. Always inspect the capillary for bubbles. If bubbles are present, discard the capillary and repeat the procedure. Insert the filled capillary Holder into the reagent cartridge. Ensure that the Holder snaps into place to avoid dislodging the sample, which could result in erroneous results. Locate the dot on the analyzer next to the barcode track. With the barcode facing to the right, insert the reagent cartridge into the barcode track above the dot. Slide the cartridge swiftly down the track. A beep will sound to signal a successful scan.
