How to Configure and Use CARE kV

How to Configure and Use CARE kV step by step

How to Configure and Use CARE RV Computed Tomography Adapting the kV value for each patient offers significant dose reduction potential; however, configuring CT technical parameters on the fly can be complex and time consuming. Siemens' CARE KV automatically suggests a kV setting for each individual patient, specific to their size and the type of examination being performed, in order to optimize both dose and image quality. This value is applied to the entire scan range and does not modulate during the scan. There are three different modes for CARE KV: Off, On, and Semi, and these can be found on the Scan subtask card. CARE KV - Off With CARE KV turned Off, the kV is not adapted to the patient and CARE Dose4D functions to modulate the mAs as usual. The system will use the kV value that has been manually entered into the protocol. CARE Dose4D M CARE KV Off Quality ref. mAs 210| Ref. KV Dose saving optimized for. CARE KV - On With CARE KV turned On, the kV entry on the routine card is dimmed. The most appropriate kV will be selected by the system, based on:  The reference kV that has been populated in the IQ definition box  The position of the dose optimization slider set for the current type of examination (non- contrast, soft tissue with contrast, vascular/CTA)  The patient's size CARE Dose4D CARE KV On Quality ref. mAs 210 2 Ref. kV 120 Eff. mAs kV Dose saving optimized for. KV is considered to be the kV that would be manually set on a 70 - 80kg/170lb patient for a specific body part/examination type to attain a desired acceptable image quality. 3. CARE KV - Semi With CARE KV on Semi, the user can manually set the desired kV value and the eff. mAs will be calculated based on: The position of the dose optimization slider set for the current type of examination (non-  contrast, soft tissue with contrast, vascular/CTA)  The patient's size CARE Dose4D M CARE KV Semi Quality ref. mAs 210 Ref. kV 120 Eff. mAs Dose saving optimized for. kV 120 Organ characteristic: Abdomen 70 80 CTDIvol (32cm): mGy DLP 100 3 S 7 120 11 12 - - 140 Semi mode is useful in instances when a fixed kV is desired in combination with the appropriate mA value, e.g. follow up studies in which the same kV is necessary to produce similar HU values.
