How to Enable and Use SAFIRE/ADMIRE

How to Enable and Use SAFIRE/ADMIRE Computed Tomography SAFIRE1 (Sinogram Affirmed Iterative Reconstruction) and ADMIRE2 (Advanced Modeled Itera- tive Reconstruction) are CT reconstruction technologies that result in improved image quality with reduced noise and increased image sharpness. As such, these Iterative Reconstruction methods can generate highly-diagnostic images from datasets acquired with significantly less dose. 1. On the Recon parameter card, select the SAFIRE or ADMIRE checkbox to enable the feature. The Recon Job number associated with that reconstruction turns blue, and the “Kernel” se- lection dropdown becomes the “Algorithm” selection dropdown to indicate that SAFIRE or ADMIRE has been enabled. Start the reconstruction by pressing the blue Recon button near the bottom left corner of the screen. Load Hold Recon Recon NOTE: The image impression of data reconstructed with SAFIRE or ADMIRE can differ from the images which are reconstructed with a conventional (filtered back projection) method. Compare the SAFIRE/ADMIRE images with the conventional images side-by-side using comparable kernels/algorithms. NOTE: Many Siemens CT scanners are factory-equipped with default protocols that utilize Iterative Reconstruction and therefore inherently reflect a reduction in recommended dose parameters. When creating custom protocols that utilize Iterative Reconstruction, take into account the dose reduction capabilities of this technology and adapt dose parameters accordingly. 1) In clinical practice, the use of SAFIRE may reduce CT patient dose depending on the clinical task, patient size, anatomical location, and clinical practice. A consultation with a radiologist and a physicist should be made to determine the appropriate dose to obtain diagnostic image quality for the particular clinical task. The following test method was used to determine a 54 to 60% dose reduction when using the SAFIRE reconstruction software. Noise, CT numbers, homogenity, low contast resolution, and high contrast resolution were assessed in a Gammex 438 phantom. Low dose data reconstructed with SAFIRE showed the same image quality compared to full dose data based on this test. Data on file. 2) In clinical practice, the use of ADMIRE may reduce CT patient dose depending on the clinical task, patient size, anatomical location, and clinical practice. A consultation with a radiologist and a physicist should be made to determine the appropriate dose to obtain diagnostic image quality for the particular clinical task (Please note, there are no quantitative dose reduction claims currently cleared for ADMIRE).
