MR Brain Spectroscopy Manual Shim – E-line Job Aid MR Spectroscopy Manual Shim – E-Line Job Aid The shim quality is important for MR Spectroscopy examinations. The goal is to decrease the Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) and increase T2*. • If automatic adjustments produce a satisfactory FWHM as specified in the ranges listed be- low, no further interaction is needed. • If the automatic adjustment is not satisfactory, then interactive shimming can be used to improve examination results. Select Inter. Shim Tab – adjust FWHM by selecting individual gradients a. Adjust FWHM for [A11/B11/A10 Gradients] only i. X/A11 (X Gradient) ii. Y/B11 (Y Gradient) iii. Z/A10 (Z Gradient) iv. Note – Don’t adjust any other gradients • Perform adjustment one gradient at a time if needed to lower FWHM b. Select Measure – starts shim adjustment i. Infinite measurement is performed with the current set shim parameters ii. Monitor results for FWHM and T2* • Aim for Lowest FWHM possible c. Select X/A11 (X Gradient) i. Click X/A11 “Up Arrow” 2 Clicks at a Time • Monitor FWHM and T2* – wait for changes to populate New FWHM ii. Shim Results Worsens • Select Load Best (e.g., uses best shim results of current measurement) • Click X/A11 “Down Arrow” 2 Clicks at a Time iii. Shim Results Improve • Continue to adjust 2 Clicks at a Time. • Select Load Best (e.g., uses best shim results of current measurement) d. FWHM and T2* Still Unsatisfactory after X/A11 Adjustment i. Repeat Steps above for [Y/B11 (Y Gradient) & Z/A10 (Z Gradient)] e. Satisified with Shim Results – Lowest Value (FWHM) Reached i. Select Stop – satisified with FWHM and T2* Results ii. Select Load Best (e.g., uses best shim results of current measurement) iii.
