ACUSON P500™ Ultrasound System 2D Controls Video

This video provides an overview of the ACUSON P500 ultrasound system 2D-mode functions.

In this section we will review the 2D controls that can be used to optimize your 2D image. 2D mode or as it is sometimes called be mode is the most commonly used image Ng mode. In 2D mode, the image is displayed in grayscale. The TEQ feature optimizes the overall field of view or FOV overall gain and depth gain compensation org. TQ continuously monitors and adjust these parameters until deactivated. The image continues to be optimized when adjusting depth and with changing anatomy to activate. Push the button once. Press twice to deactivate the feature. Decreasing the sector with allows you to eliminate unnecessary areas of the image. To decrease the width, use a pinch like motion on the touch pad to increase the width, use a spreading motion. The Touch screen panel contains more optimization settings. Some options include tissue harmonic imaging, advanced see clear dynamic tissue, contrast enhancement, or DTC, and dynamic range. Other options for image optimization or acquisition are Tint Map, Edge persistence, and R or resolution speed availability depends upon the selected transducer and reset. Now let's look at the focus controls. The focus off key, adjust the position of the image focal zone or zones in the area of interest in your image to move the focus on tap the soft key on the monitor or use the key on the control panel. The optimal focal zone location varies, however at or slightly below the structure of interest is usually the best location. Use the focus number button or key to increase or decrease the number of focal zones. You can add a color overlay to the 2D image by using the tint button. This function is also available for both the M mode and Doppler spectrum and can be used on the real time or frozen image. Pressing the map button allows you to select a processing curve to apply to the image. This function allows you to choose the application of grey levels to the echo amplitudes. This function is also available for the color Doppler modes, M mode and spectral Doppler tracings. This function can be used on the real time or frozen image. The transmit power button allows you to decrease the factory threshold for the output power. You can adjust the transmit power using the slider control. You will notice changing the transmit power also changes the mechanical index. Or am I and the thermal index or T? It is best to use the lowest transmit power as possible to decrease the chance of tissue injury. You can adjust the range of Grays that display on the image unless change the overall contrast resolution of the image by using the dynamic feature, the five decimal increments allow you to change the highest to lowest grayscale values. Using a lower dynamic range results in a high contrast image, while the opposite is true of a high dynamic range image. This function can be used on the real time or frozen image. This function is also available for the M mode and Doppler spectral tracings. Let's talk about the IRS touchscreen function. Depending upon the transducer, you will have up to six selections ranging from none or zero to five. This control allows you to adjust the balance between the image line density resolution and the frame rate speed. If you have a structure, you need high resolution, such as a breast or a testicle, you would use a higher res setting such as five. This setting uses a highline density, an low speed. If you need a fast acquisition, such as when image in the heart or an active fetus, you would select a lower R speed using a lower setting such as zero or one will decrease the line density but increase the speed of image acquisition. Setting the persistence tells the acuson P 500 system how many images you want to average in the final data. If the persistence is set at zero, the image updates with every sweep of the transducer, moving the persistence to 1 results in an averaging of two images, the one that exists and one new one. Thus the setting of 1. As you increase the persistence, the number of images averaged also increases. Increasing the average frames increases the axial and lateral resolution. Artifacts are decreased due to the averaging of the images. To image a fetal heart, use a low persistence as structures are moving. In the case of a breast or thyroid mass, a high persistence can be used to increase the detail of structures. When you need to distinguish the contour of a structure during real time imaging, you can adjust the edge enhancement using the edge button. This function is also available for M mode and Doppler. Depending upon the transducer, you will have up to three selections. Pen Gen and detail on the image presets button. Depending upon the body, habitus of your patient, select the frequency that will best penetrate your patient detail would be for patients with a slight body habitus, gin short for general is for patients with a medium body, habitus and pen short for penetration is for patients that are technically difficult or who have a large body habitus. There are three levels of advanced. See clear spatial, com, pounding, advanced, see clear. Com pounding is a method to direct the soundbeam in multiple directions. Scanning the area of interest multiple times coupled with frame averaging results in a reduction in artifacts such as specal. Visualization of tissue boundaries increases due to the angle of insolation being closer to 90 degrees. And finally anatomy located posterior to shadowing structures can be imaged. Dynamic qu tissue contrast enhancement technology or DTE helps reduce specal, an enhanced contrast. There are four settings ranging from zero to four. Zero indicates that the DTC is off and four results in the hyest image processing applied. This feature can be used on the real time or frozen image. Using a lower frequency increases penetration, while a higher frequency increases image detail. Usually you have to change the transducer when you want to use a different frequency. However, multi Hertz allows you to change the transmit frequency without changing the transducer. The used frequency displays on the soft key and on the image. Tissue harmonic imaging, or THI, is a two day mode in which the transducer receives the echoes at twice the transmit frequency. The major benefit of harmonic imaging is artifact reduction in the image tissue. Harmonic images often exhibit a reduction in image noise and clutter with an improvement in contrast resolution. Harmonic imaging can be helpful when imaging areas of the body that are fluid filled, such as the gall bladder, bladder, cystic structures, or heart chambers. The left side of the monitor contains additional softkeys to include the physio settings, biopsy guide, steer flip, trapezoid, and tool. The physio settings button contains the controls for the ECG, auxiliary, ECG, respiratory and auxiliary signal. The ECG, an exhilarate ECG menu, allow for ECG gain position an inverting the tracing and selecting the trigger. The respiration an auxiliary signal menus allow for gain in position adjustments. Tap return to exit the physio settings. Tapping the biopsy button enables the a angle onscreen guideline, a message, verify that the physical needle guide matches. Your angle selection appears when you are sure the guide matches the needle path. Click OK. The be angle is also available. Tap the bobbsey button to exit. The biopsy function is available with 2D image Ng 2D with color Doppler energy or CD and 2D with color Doppler velocity or CDV. Stere adjust the angle of the field of view or FOV to the left or right. This function is available on the linear transducers and can be used to steer the 2D image color box or the D line in pulsed wave Doppler. The LR flip button changes the side to side orientation of the image. When the button contains an L, the gold A is on the left side of the image. Tapping the button flips the image so the gold A is on the right and in or appears on the LR flip button. This function is available on both the real time and frozen image. The UD flip button changes the top to bottom orientation of the image when the button contains a U. The Gold A is on the top of the image. Tapping the button flips the image, so the gold A is on the bottom and ADI appears on the UD flip button. This function is available on both the real time and frozen image. Trapezoid imaging offers you a wider field of view when scanning with a linear transducer. Trapezoids Fila view allows you and expanded imaging format for image in large, superficial structures. Tap the trapezoid button to activate this feature. Tap the Touchpad wants to activate the size adjustment function. Tapping the touchpad a second time activates position, which allows you to move the image area within the trapezoid field. Tapping a third time disables the touchpad. If you were using color, you can change the size and position of both the 2D and the color box with the touch pad. To remove the size and position changes, tap full size. To exit, tap the trapezoid button. Please note the trapezoidal function may not be available for certain depths. The dual function allows the display of two images in a side-by-side format. These images are stored in what is called a dual buffer. This means when you obtain an image on each side of the dual image, you can scroll through the sinay. To obtain a dual image, tap the dual button and your image will appear on the left side. Press the door button located above the touch pad to obtain an image on the other side. Notice the Gold A appears on the live side of the dual image. Once the images are frozen, you can use the touchpad to manually scroll through the images or run this in a loop by pressing the play pause buttons located to each side of the touch pad. To change sides on the frozen dual image, simply press the dual button above the touch pad. You'll notice there is a space between the two sides of the dual image. To remove this space, you simply need to check the radio button located on the exam page of the configuration menu. Turning on seamless dual removes the space and allows you to measure across the center line. Dual is also available with color Doppler velocity or CD and color Doppler Energy or CDE modes. Tap the dual button on the touch screen to exit.
