Peaking Isotopes on all Symbia SPECT and SPECT/CT

This job aid will assist the user with peaking isotopes on all Symbia SPECT
and SPECT/CT systems.

Peaking Isotopes on all Symbia SPECT and SPECT/CT Systems All Symbia Scanners (VB2x and Prior Versions) Description: This job aid will assist the user with peaking isotopes on all Symbia SPECT and SPECT/CT systems. Point sources for each Isotope needing to be peaked should be made prior to starting this procedure. The recommended activity for each source is 35 µCi. More information on creating point sources can be found in the Quality Control chapter of your system’s user manual. Peaking Isotopes for patient imaging use: 1. All peaking is performed intrinsically and from a point source (not a patient). Begin by removing any collimators from your system. 2. Peaking is accessed on the Analyzer tab of any Acquisition workflow. Note: If an acquisiton has a zoom factor applied on the camera parameters tab, the system will not allow you to proceed until the zoom is removed. The quickest way to access the Analyzer tab without a zoom is to launch the Tuning workflow. To launch the Tuning workflow, navigate to Manual QC, Service or Calibration template category, and double left click on the workflow labled Tuning. Click on the Select Existing Preset dropdown menu and select the isotope you wish to peak. a. Analyzer presets typically used in clinical applications are found near the top of the list. They commonly inlcude Tc99m-NMG, Co57-NMG, Ga-67-NMG, In111- NMG, I123-NMG, I131-NMG, Xe 133-NMG, and Tl-NMG. Most SPECT/CT systems use scatter correction analyzers for certain acquisitions. These SC anaylyzers can be found near the bottom of the dropdown list with the naming pattern of SC-xxXX-NMG. These are peaked in addtion to corresponding their non-scatter versions, although the same point sources may be used. Once you select the analyzer window you wish to peak, position the corresponding point source onto the integrated source holder. Reminder: The recommended activity for each source is 35 µCi. If the source is higher than that, you may have Dead Time % errors. With the point source in position, verify the Dead Time % for each detector is within acceptable limits (3% - 9%). This is typically around 40kc/sec if you are looking at your persistance on the PPM. The peak status will change from “Not Peaked“ to “Peaked“ when complete. Review the Peak Shift value. a. Peak Shift values of +/- 3% are acceptable for all SPECT or SPECT/CT systems. Note: For analyzer presents with multiple photopeaks, each peak should fall within this recommended range. b. Analyzer presets being used for xSPECT Quant should have a Peak Shift of +/- 1%. c. If the Peak Shift is greater that the recommended value, verify your source is made correctly, and that there are no other sources in the room. If other sources are present, the energy spectrum will be contaminated. 9. You can repeat the procedure with other isotopes until all desired analyzer presents are properly peaked Unrestricted 0 Published by Siemens Healthcare GmbH © Siemens Healthcare GmbH, 2020 SIEMENS Master Template Effective Date: 3/5/2020 | HOOD05162003074494 Job Aid Effective Date: 02/03/2021 | HOOD/HILS HOOD05162003165049 Healthineers Page 5 of 6 Job Aid |Peaking Isotopes on All Symbia SPECT and SPECT/CT Systems Effective Date: 02/03/2021 10. Note: If peaking Dual-Isotope presets, each isotope is peaked individually, and the Pause Between Peaks button must be selected. For example, if peaking a Tc99m/In111 dual isotope analyzer: a. With only one isotpe present in the scanner room, position the [A] group isotope point source onto the integrated source holder. In this example, Tc99m is the [A] isotope b. Click Pause Between Peaks. c. Verify the Dead Time for the [A] group point source is within 3% - 9%. d. Click Begin Peaking. e. Once the Peak Status for the first energy window changes to Peaked, a message will appear stating that peaking has paused. f. Remove the [A] group point source from the scanner room (Tc99m in this case), and replace it with the [B] group point source (In111 in this example). g. Verify the Dead Time for the [B] group point source is within 3% - 9%. h. Click on the Continue button to peak the first energy window in the [B] group. In this case, In111 has two energy windows, so the pause message will appear again after the first window is peaked, and you simply hit continue one more time to peak its second energy window.
