PFA-100® Analyzer Maintenance

Welcome to the PFA-100® Maintenance Online Training course. Performing maintenance procedures at scheduled and at “as-needed” intervals keeps your PFA 100® instrument up and running. In this course, you’ll learn which maintenance tasks need to be performed daily and weekly, as well as yearly or as needed. Be sure to refer to the PFA-100® Operator’s Guide for detailed instructions about how to perform each task. Note: This course does not include audio. Tab TitleTextClean Work Surface Clean the exterior of the PFA-100® by wiping with a damp cloth containing a solution of 0.525 % sodium hypochlorite and water. The type code black pad, which resides on the surface of the carousel underneath the cassette, should also be maintained clean and free of residue. Check Printer Paper To advance the paper From the System Ready display, press the softkey located next to Menus. From the Menu display, press 2 on the keypad to select the Maintenance option. On the keypad, press 1 to select the Paper Advance option. Press the softkey located next to Load to advance the paper into the printer, and then press the softkey located next to Ready Screen to return to the System Ready display. Check Trigger Solution Do not use trigger solution if it appears turbid or if particulate matter is present. Be sure the access door is fully closed before pushing the lever down to avoid damaging the trigger bottle spiking needle. You must prime the system after replacing an empty vial of trigger solution.  Perform Self-Test Be sure to record the results of the Self-Test on the QC & Maintenance Form.  To ensure proper performance of the PFA-100® system, perform the weekly maintenance task listed below.  Clean and inspect O-Ring manually Be sure to update the QC & Maintenance Form after completing maintenance tasks. Refer to your PFA-100® Operator's Guide for detailed instructions. Weekly Maintenance Learn about weekly maintenance. Remove the O-Ring by using the O-Ring Service Tool. ​Select the Remove/Install option from the Maintenance menu. Clean the O-Ring manually under running tap water followed by soaking in 70% Isopropanol for approximately 15 seconds. Be sure to wear gloves when performing this cleaning procedure. The following maintenance tasks need to be performed yearly or on an as-needed basis, usually in response to a message that appears on the LCD. Replace O-Ring Clean O-Ring Prime the system Replace fuses Replace printer paper Be sure to update the QC & Maintenance Form after completing maintenance tasks. Refer to your PFA-100® Operator's Guide for detailed instructions. Yearly or As-Needed Maintenance Learn about yearly or as-needed maintenance. Tab TitleTextReplace O-Ring The O-Ring can be replaced as needed or yearly by using the O-Ring Service Tool and selecting the Remove/Install option on the Maintenance menu. Perform a Self-Test after replacing the O-Ring to ensure that the system has no vacuum leak.   Clean O-Ring You can clean the O-Ring two ways: during the Self-Test using the O-Ring cleaning pad, or using the O-Ring Service tool. Weekly, clean the O-Ring manually by selecting the Remove/Install option from the Maintenance menu. Yearly or as needed, clean or replace the O-Ring using the O-Ring Service Tool by selecting the Remove/Install option from the Maintenance menu. Prime System Prime the system and run a Self-Test if the instrument has not been used in two days or more to clear the system of any accumulated bubbles caused by the outgassing of the trigger solution. Replace Fuses Caution: To prevent electrical shock, unplug the instrument before replacing fuses.   Replace Printer Paper As needed, replace printer paper and ribbon as shown here.
