Support the patient by placing a triangular • sponge behind his/her back. Adjust the patient’s position until the breast is • evenly distributed across the chest wall. If needed, raise the patient’s arm above his/her • head to evenly distribute the breast tissue and adjust the bed in the head up or down (trendelenburg or reverse trendelenburg) position. 13 Patient Positioning ABVS Protocol Views 14 ABVS Protocol Views The protocol automatically acquires views of each breast in a customizable sequence, beginning with the right and ending with the left. Each view has a pre-determined label: R AP, right anterior to posterior L AP, left anterior to posterior (center region of breast) (center region of breast) R LAT, right lateral L LAT, left lateral (side of breast near mid-axillary line) (side of breast near mid-axillary line) R MED, right medial L MED, left medial (side of breast near sternum) (side of breast near sternum) R SUP, right superior L SUP, left superior (top of breast) (top of breast) R INF, right inferior L INF, left inferior AP 15 Place the pod over the central portion of the breast so that it is parallel with the chest wall. SIEMENS Acquisition should include: Superior and inferior tissue borders • Symmetrical round breast • Lateral Place the lateral edge of the pod along the mid axillary line. Scoop and flatten the breast tissue so that it is parallel to the chest wall. Acquisition should include: Superior and inferior borders • of lateral breast to include the axillary tail Edge of tapering lateral breast • tissue ABVS Protocol Views ABVS Protocol Views 16 Medial Place the medial edge of the pod along the opposite sternal edge. SIEMENS Gently lower the center of the pod onto the breast and slide laterally until adequate contact is visualized. Acquisition should include: Superior and inferior borders of • the medial breast to include the inframammary fold Sternum, rib and intercostal • muscle medially Superior 17 Place the superior edge of the pod just below the clavicle. Roll pod toward the nipple. Acquisition should include: Superior aspect of the breast • from the clavicle to the nipple Inferior Place the inferior edge of the pod SIEMENS 2 inches below the breast border. Slide the pod toward the nipple until adequate contact is visualized. Acquisition should include: Inferior aspect of the breast from • the inframammary line to the nipple ABVS Protocol Views Acquisition 18 Step 1 Attach a single use membrane. • Step 2 Place the patient in a supine position. • Place a supportive cushion so that the • patient’s nipple is pointing toward the ceiling. Position arm to evenly distribute the breast • tissue. Step 3 19 Evenly apply lotion to the breast using a spatula • or tongue depressor. Step 4 Place the pod over the breast and center • according to the desired view. SIEMENS Step 5 Lock the transducer. • Apply a small amount of pressure to stabilize • the breast. Acquisition Acquisition 20 Step 6 Verify the correct view. • Select the cup size preset and ensure the depth • is correct. Som A LR Ensure adequate contact to provide consistent • coverage. Step 7 Press arrow to initiate image acquisition. • The complete scan will go in the direction of the • arrow usually from inferior to superior. Step 8 21 Before “accepting” the volume, use the “slice • position key” on the ACUSON S2000 system or the “TSI Depth” key on the touch screen to scroll through the volume. Step 9 14450 30-130% OCH Place the nipple marker over the nipple. 11.00 M • Verify view type is correct and modify if • necessary. Press “Accept”. • Acquisition Ending the Exam 22 When all views are completed for both breasts, • select “End Exam” key on the control panel. The data set transfers either manually or Patient Review • automatically to syngo.Ultrasound Breast Analysis (sUSBA) for physician interpretation.
