In the evaluation of coagulopathy in cirrhotic patients, the association between traditional laboratory determinations and clinical behavior is unsatisfactory. Mathematical modeling can design “white box” models using physiological knowledge or “black box” models without a priori information, both of which could be useful in decision making for these patients.
