The replacement platform for the Biograph™ mCT and Biograph Vision™ is Windows 10. Prior to the VG80A release, completion of a cardiac scan required the user to manually adjust the beat histogram to exclude outliers before submitting reconstructions. With VG80A, an automated function is performed to determine the optimal upper and lower thresholds based on individual patient data. The application automatically adjusts the beat histogram threshold to remove outliers. Note: Auto Beat Histogram also works similarly for respiratory gating. If you would like to manually adjust the beat histogram, you can turn off auto recon and adjust as desired. VG80A now supports the option to export images as JPEG. This may prove helpful for customers wanting to create presentations, marketing material, and obtaining various accreditations. Click the popup to learn how to configure this feature. Export Images as JPEG Learn more about configuring the Export as JPEG Feature.   Your previous software supported PET Dose Reports in a DICOM black image format. VG80A offers an additional PET Dose Report in SR (Structured Report) format: Provides individual Organ dose as well as Whole Body Effective Dose Series is displayed in the Patient Browser as PET Dose Report SR Can be exported/transferred as series with patient datasets Can be viewed in the SR Viewer & printed as PDF   This feature provides an improved, Advanced Relative scatter and Absolute scatter correction option, reducing artifacts and improving image quality. It offers the potential to reduce halo artifacts that may appear in the presence of high contrast-to-background ratios. This reconstruction will be performed offline once the acquisition is complete. Note: This feature is not supported for Summed Pass or Stitched Gating reconstructions. A new algorithm allows for reconstructions outside the standard FoV. CT HD FoV Pro 3.0 automatically replaces HD FoV 2.0 and no additional user interaction is required. VG80A implements the new kernel concept supported by CT. The kernel names are divided into three levels (EX: B r 62) The capital letter (B) represents the body region or the so-called Family The lowercase letter (r) indicates the subgroup within a body region/family: regular, vascular, lung, pediatric, crisp The number (62) at the end indicates the sharpness Kernels of former software versions are mapped to the new kernel concept to achieve comparable image quality Note: Your current user defined protocols will be imported during the upgrade and mapped to provide comparable image quality. No user interaction will be required.   A new feature in TrueD is the ability to set blending ratio defaults as well as a default CT W/L Fusion preset (see image). This can be accomplished by going to: Options → Configuration → TrueD and choosing the Visualization tab. In prior software versions, a dose reminder was highlighted in yellow to ensure the proper dose was entered prior to acquisition. In VG80A, a time reminder has been added to call attention to the need for inputting the proper injection time. Unlike the dose reminder however, the scan can be acquired with no changes made to this field. In VG80A, it is now possible to select any CT reconstruction to autoload to TrueD. For example, the second CT reconstruction with a diagnostic FoV can be chosen to display with the PET. Note: Auto Display to TrueD changed from a drop-down menu (TrueD or None) to a check box. With OncoFreeze, an optical flow algorithm enables the use of all counts acquired during the acquisition, which: Provides images virtually free of respiratory motion in the same time as a regular whole-body scan Helps improve delineation and quantification of small lesions Adapts to each individual’s unique breathing pattern to deliver the best possible image Simple acquisition with no changes to current workflow OncoFreeze is an extension of the iterative reconstruction algorithm and is not available for Backprojection reconstructions. Note: OncoFreeze was already a supported option for some of our Biograph customers. DirectBreathhold is a new RTP (Radiation Therapy Planning) option. DirectBreathhold simplifies DIBH (Deep Inspiration Breathhold) CT acquisitions by automatically triggering the prospective scan. It may help to reduce unwarranted variations in respiratory scans. Prerequisites for DirectBreathhold are Respiratory Motion Management as well as an external gating device that can trigger the scan (e.g. RGSC/ANZAI).   Guided 4D Workflow (FAST 4D): Provides an automated adjustment of scan parameters depending on the patient breathing pattern. (rot time, pitch according to rpm) Furthermore this workflow enables an automatic splitting of multiphase series to ensure compatibility with TPS (treatment planning system). An automatic generation of t-MIP datasets with no manual interaction needed.   The DirectDensity™ algorithm provides images in which the CT values can be interpreted as showing relative electron density. Currently, radiation therapy treatment planning systems require a kV-specific calibration curve to convert CT image values into relative electron density. A single linear relationship that does not depend on the tube voltage of CT acquisitions can unlock the unused potential of CT imaging in radiotherapy, as it removes the need for scan protocols with fixed tube voltage. DirectDensity™ images can be reconstructed with the Sd40 kernel and used for: Contouring and Dose calculation Disclaimer: DirectDensity™ reconstruction is designed for use in Radiation Therapy Planning (RTP) only. DirectDensity™ reconstruction is not intended to be used for diagnostic imaging.   Compared to X-ray, CT with Tin Filter provides: User independent protocol: No reliance on user experience to get the correct images More data for the same low dose: 3D data at X-ray series dose levels Allows up to 30% reduction of topogram dose whilst providing the equivalent dose profile and image quality calculations (with CAREDose 4D)* Tin Filter is only available on the Biograph mCT Edge and Biograph Vision Edge systems. *Based on Topogram Dose (CTDIvol) measured comparing CARE Dose 4D and CARE kV calculations with and without tin filtration. OncoFreeze AI combines OncoFreeze & Data Driven Gating, which allows motion management via automation & standardization. Key benefits of Data Driven Gating (DDG): Non-contact, equipment-free method to measure respiration Eliminates equipment setup time Reduces operator errors Reduces measurement artifacts Reduces complexity of clinical exams Note: Data Driven Gating is only supported if you have the OncoFreeze and the FlowMotion options. CardioFreeze reduces blur that cardiac images are subject to, due to motion from both the beating heart and breathing.  Key Benefits: Minimizes both cardiac and respiratory motion, utilizing 100% of the information in each cardiac gate Avoids poor image quality due to cardiac and respiratory motion Improves signal to noise ratio Does not require an external respiratory device Offers the potential for research on vulnerable plaque CardioFreeze is an extension of the iterative reconstruction algorithm and is not available for Backprojection reconstructions. Note: CardioFreeze was already a supported option for some of our Biograph customers.   Due to improvements implemented in the Backprojection Reconstruction algorithm within VG80A, the ECF values may change by +/- 1% as well as the PET Backprojection reconstruction times. Therefore, we recommend that you perform the scanner cross calibration procedure after the VG80 upgrade. The cross-calibration procedure calibrates the PET scanner to the dose calibrator and accounts for the mu-value of a liquid or third-party solid Germanium-68 Quality phantom. For complete instructions on the cross-calibration procedure, please see your Biograph Operator’s Manual. Supports an automatic restart after the system has performed a Cleanup & Shutdown Enabled by activating "Restart after shutdown" option in the bottom left of the user interface screen In previous versions, after PET QC had completed, the PHS would always go to the home position in the front of the gantry. In order to accommodate customers who prefer to remove the phantom from the rear side of the gantry, it is now possible to have the PHS move all the way through the gantry after PET QC. This feature could help reduce the technologist's radiation exposure from the PET phantom. FAST PET Planning utilizes ALPHA (Anatomic Landmarking and Parsing of Human Anatomy) to facilitate immediate, organ-based setting of the PET scan and recon ranges aiming for a faster and more standardized workflow at the scanner compared to manual planning. Optimum range for scan settings, avoiding cut-offs or over radiation Faster and more standardized workflow for PET/CT compared to manual planning Fast and reproducible results from any operator compared to when planned manually Note: FAST PET Planning is only supported if you have the FlowMotion option.
