This job aid provides instructions on how to perform the as needed maintenance task of cleaning the Atellica® Sample Handler sample drawers and racks.

Opening or closing the sample drawer too quickly or forcefully can damage the drawer self-closing mechanism or cause splashing of the samples. Open or close the sample drawer slowly. Clean the interior of each drawer: A. Wipe the area with lint-free tissues or gauze saturated with a 10% bleach solution B. Wipe the area with lint-free tissues or gauze saturated with water C. Dry the area thoroughly with clean lint-free tissues or gauze D. Dispose of contaminated cleaning supplies per laboratory protocol 5. Remove all sample containers from racks before cleaning 6. If the rack requires only routine cleaning: A. Wipe the rack with lint-free tissues or gauze saturated with a 10% bleach solution B. Wipe the rack with lint-free tissues or gauze saturated with water C. Dry the rack thoroughly with clean lint-free tissues or gauze D. Dispose of contaminated cleaning supplies per laboratory protocol NOTE: Take care when handling the sample racks, especially with the barcode labels and white localization dots on the top surface. The barcodes and white dots are used by the Drawer Vision System on the Sample Handler for tube identification and processing. 2 * This procedure is continued on the next slide. If the rack is contaminated or has stuck-on debris that routine cleaning cannot remove: Note: this may be performed no more than once per week A. Soak the rack in a 10% bleach solution for no more than 5 minutes B. Rinse the rack thoroughly with water C. Dry the rack thoroughly with clean lint-free tissues or gauze, taking care around the barcode labels and white localization dots D. Dispose of contaminated cleaning supplies per laboratory protocol 10 8.
