Now that you know about some of the types of network cables, we need to know about their connectors as well. Coaxial cables use BNC connectors and CAT 5e /CAT 6 cables use RJ-45 ports, which are a cousin of the phone jack but look bigger. RJ-45 ports are used in smaller networks. And lastly Fiber optic cables use several different kinds of connectors. A NIC card is connected into network devices to extend or grow a network. Network devices are hardware components that allow different systems to talk with one another. Common examples of network devices are Hubs, Switches and Routers.   Congratulations. You have completed the Daily Setup with CHK course for the Dimension® EXL™ with LM integrated chemistry system. Clean the sample area and empty cuvette waste: Press Pause to stop the sampler system from moving while cleaning the sample area. Remove all segments and clean inside the sample area with a damp cloth. When emptying cuvette waste, cut between the cuvettes at least 12 inches away from the instrument to prevent spilling of contents and prevent cuvette jams. If barcode readers need to be cleaned, use a cloth lightly moistened with water. Check for other maintenance requirements on Daily Maintenance Routines screen: If maintenance tasks are required, the Daily Maintenance Routine screen will display function keys to open applicable System Counters screens. On this screen, you also can view the last time a component was cleaned or replaced. Items that require maintenance will be displayed in red. Run a System Check: A CHK Flex® reagent cartridge must be loaded onboard the instrument to perform a System Check The Photometric Sampler, Reagent probes (R1, R2, and R3), HM system, and RMS use the CHK solution from the onboard Flex® reagent cartridge. While viewing the Daily Maintenance Routines screen, press the Help key to find System Check specifications. Update Maintenance Log: Use the Daily Maintenance Log to record temperatures for the Cuvette, Reagent, HM, Hydration, RMS Reagent and confirm other tasks (empty cuvette waste and run System Check) have been completed. Use the Daily System Check Log to record Photometer wavelengths are OK, Mean & SD for R1, R2, Sampler, HM and RMS, maximum LOCI® module reading and CHK Lot Number. Select Next to continue.   Hubs are devices that have multiple ports, or input/output connection points, that are used to interconnect computers in a network.  When computers send data to a hub, the data is sent to every port on the hub. In this example, when computer #1 wants to send data to computer #4, that request is broadcast to each computer, generating a lot of network traffic that could lead to the corruption or loss of information.   Use the Daily Maintenance Routines screen to run routine tasks that are to be performed at least once every 24 hours. Performing these maintenance tasks daily will help keep the instrument running efficiently. Clean Sample Area Keep the sample area clean to prevent biohazards and chemicals from accumulating in the sample wheel and segments. Clean the sample processing area with a cloth lightly moistened with water. Do not spray into the sample area. If the barcode reader needs to be cleaned, use a damp cloth. Check the RMS online course for additional RMS information. Empty Cuvette Waste Empty cuvette waste at least once every 24 hours, but more often for high-volume use. Cut between the cuvettes to prevent spilling of cuvette contents. Cut the film strip at least 12 inches away from the instrument to prevent cuvette jams. Tip:   Before cleaning the sample area, press Pause to stop the sampler system from moving.  Select Next to continue. The Dimension® EXL™with LM integrated chemistry system tracks when maintenance tasks are due. Screens display usage cycles and the last time the component was cleaned or replaced. Items that require maintenance will be displayed in red. To access the Daily Maintenance Routines screen, select: F4: SYSTEM PREP F8: DAILY MAINT. When complete, select the X in the upper-right corner to close the window and continue.    The System Check verifies the accuracy and precision of the Dimension® EXL™ with LM system.  Running a System Check once every 24 hours ensures proper operation of the following instrument components: Photometer system, R1, R2, Sampler, HM wash, RMS and LOCI® module. You may be required to run a System Check as follow-up to some maintenance tasks. It also can be useful when troubleshooting chemistry or hardware issues. The System Check can be programmed to run automatically at a convenient user-defined time of day. Programming Automatic System Check Learn how to program a System Check to process automatically. From the DAILY MAINTENANCE ROUTINES screen, select F8: AUTO SETUP to access the DAILY MAINTENANCE AUTO RUN SETUP screen.   Choose your customized run time using a 24-hour format. Always remember to select F1: SAVE CHANGES to store your preferences. When complete, select the X in the upper-right corner to close the window and continue.      Running a System Check Learn tips about Running a System Check. A CHK Flex® reagent cartridge must be loaded onboard the instrument to perform a System Check. The sample probe, reagent probes (R1, R2, and R3), and HM system use CHK from the onboard Flex® reagent cartridge. The CHK Flex® cartridge carton value for each lot is located on the outside of the reagent carton. You must enter this value into the Daily Maintenance Routines screen. The instrument will alert you if a CHK Flex® reagent cartridge is not onboard the instrument. Tip:  If the System Check fails, rerun the System Check to confirm that a problem exists. Refer to the Troubleshooting section of the Operator’s Guide to assist troubleshooting the problem. Photometer Wavelength:  The Dimension® EXL™ with LM system checks absorbance readings for the 10 different photometer filters. Photometer Maximum:  No CHK solution is used here.  The photometer takes two readings of a blank cuvette and calculates the difference between the readings.  The system performs this 5 times and prints the maximum difference. Reagent #1:  System Check results for R1. Reagent #2:  System Check results for R2. Sampler:  System Check results for the photometric sampler. HM Wash:  System Check results for HM wash 1 and 2 for systems that include an HM module. Sample Probe Cleaner:  Checks for the presence of sample probe cleaner in the sample probe drain. Reagent Probe Cleaner:  Checks for the presence of reagent probe cleaner in the R2 probe drain. LOCI® Results:  Checks the performance of the LOCI® module RMS: System Check results for R3 Mean and SD are calculated from five consecutive absorbance readings for each of the five CHK aliquots aspirated.  The Mean is compared to the carton value of CHK to assess accuracy.  The SD is used to assess precision. When System Check results are printed: Record these results on the Daily Maintenance Log: Record Temperatures – Cuvette, Reagent, HM, RMS Hydration, RMS Reagent Check Empty Cuvette Waste Check Run System Check Tip:   Do not log temperature results that appear in parentheses. This indicates the system is acquiring the temperature. Refer to the Daily Maintenance Routines Screen for current temperature. Record these results on the Daily System Check Log: Photometer wavelength: Are all wavelengths OK? Note any filters which are not OK Mean and SD for R1, R2, Sampler, HM and RMS Highest LOCI® module Reading CHK Lot Number Select Next to continue. The topogram acts as a Scout scan and allows for positioning of the spiral CT and PET scan. Once you have completed registering the patient, positioning the patient, and selecting the study protocol, you can acquire the topogram. Then, click the Load button to load the topogram.  You will be prompted to press the Start button on the control box after the study loads by the flashing Start button. Once the start button is pressed, the topogram will be acquired.
