epoc® Blood Analysis System Performing a Capillary Whole Blood Test Video

This video will show you the procedure on how to perform a capillary whole blood test on the epoc® Blood Analysis System.

Performing a capillary whole blood test on the epoch blood analysis system. This module covers obtaining a capillary whole blood sample and delivering the sample into the epoch test card. For a full description of the testing process, please view module 3. Obtain all appropriate supplies for performing a capillary puncture, including the epoch care. Fill capillary tube. Note do not remove, reposition or depress plunger. Also, do not remove adapter. Always hold the tube at the blue band and do not hold or handle by the plunger. Perform a capillary puncture procedure according to facility policy. Fill the tube until the blood sample contacts the white porous plug. Ensure that the tube remains vertical so that no air bubbles are introduced. The capillary tube should be held vertically. Once the capillary tube is filled completely, hold the capillary tube by the blue band pointing the tip of the capillary tube upward so that it is now vertical. Slide the adapter towards the end of the capillary tube and insert the capillary tube tip into the adapter. Hold the capillary tube. By the adapter pointing the tip of the adapter into the test card sample port, rotate the adapter a quarter turn to ensure a proper seal has been made between the test card and the adapter. Maintain hold of the adapter and using the fingers of your other hand, push the plunger down completely using one single motion. Continue to hold the plunger completely down while waiting for the reader to beep. After the reader has beeped disengaged the capillary tube from the card by tilting it as opposed to pulling it straight up. The host displays analyzing sample once analysis is complete, test results will display on the epoch host screen. If the prompt enter patient ID to view test results is displayed. Enter the ID number and tap the save icon. Then results will appear on the screen. Note that other fields may also be required. Follow prompts to complete and save. Depending on tests selected, the results will display in tabular form. Tabs are gases chemistries. And metabolites. If a test was not selected but as needed. Tap on the test selection tab. Tap on the checkbox for the test desired and tap save. Additional information can be added and saved at this time. Once the test results display, the test card can be removed at anytime. Dispose of the testcard in a biohazard disposal receptacle. When all testing with the epoch reader is complete and all data entries are made, the test is closed by tapping on the red X at the top right to close the epoch reader screen for that reader. Tap on the logout icon, Green Arrow pointing to an open door to disconnect from the epoch reader. Note that closing the test permanently saves the test and changes to that test are no longer possible. If desired, turn off the epoch reader and epoch host using the power buttons.
