RAPIDPoint® 500 Blood Gas Systems Routine Procedures Online Training

Replace consumable cartridges, sample port, printer paper, and air filter. Clean and disinfect touchscreen and exterior surfaces

An underlying cause cannot be identified in approximately 90 to 95% of hypertension cases. In such cases, it is referred to as primary hypertension.  A genetic component may be involved. In support of a genetic component is the fact that the majority of hypertension patients have a positive family history, meaning that other family members are also affected.  Lifestyle factors such as excessive consumption of salt, alcohol, and tobacco, as well as stress and alterations in hormone balance associated with diabetes, also have a positive influence. A condition called secondary hypertension is reported in only about 5 to 10% of cases. The most common cause is renal artery stenosis, although disorders of the adrenal or thyroid glands can also play a causative role. Hormone imbalances or congenital vascular abnormalities may also lead to hypertension. Welcome to the RAPIDPoint® 500 Blood Gas Analyzer Routine Procedures Online Training course.  Although the RAPIDPoint® 500 Blood Gas Analyzer is maintenance free, it does require certain routine procedures to keep the system operating efficiently and to replenish consumables as required. These procedures are completed on an as-needed basis as determined by instrument usage and environmental conditions in your facility.   Select Next to continue. Clean and disinfect the screen and exterior surfaces Replace the Air Filter Replace the consumable cartridges Replace the printer paper Replace the Sample Port Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: Select Next to continue. Congratulations.  You have completed the RAPIDPoint® 500 Routine Operations Online Training course.  Listed below are the key points that have been presented.  Take time to review the material before you proceed to the final quiz. Replace the Consumable Cartridges The Wash/Waste Cartridge is located behind the electronically locked door and is attached to the measurement cartridge. It is replaced every 10 days or 250 samples. The Wash Waste supplies the wash solution that is used between each calibration, QC, and patient sample as well as collects all system waste. To replace the Wash/Waste Cartridge, access the Status screen then select  the Wash/Waste cartridge button. Touch the Replace Button to open the system door and launch the instructional video.  Remove the Wash/Waste Cartridge and dispose of it according to your facility's protocol. Install the new Wash Waste Cartridge, pushing on the dot until the cartridge locks into place. Close the system door. The Measurement Cartridge is located behind the electronically locked door installed on the cartridge interface assembly. It is replaced every 28 days or when available tests are consumed. The Measurement Cartridge houses the electro-chemical measurment sensors, the CO-ox sample chamber, contains the 200 solution, 'zero' solution and the RCX calibrants required for system calibration. To replace the Measurement Cartridge, access the  Status screen then select the Measurement Cartridge button., Touch the  Replace Button to open the system door and launch the instructional video. Remove the Wash/Waste cartridge and discard. The AQC Cartridge is attached to the Automatic QC latch assembly and is replaced every 28 days. It includes an integrated Automatic QC valve that selects the control levels selected or programmed to run. To replace the Automatic QC Cartridge, navigate to the Status screen then select the Automatic QC Cartridge button. Touch the Replace button to launch the instructional video. Push in and slide the connector on the Automatic QC cartridge to the right and wait for the cartridge to eject from the system. Remove and discard the cartridge according to your facility's protocol. Remove the yellow card located under the grey lever of the new Automatic QC cartridge. Press down firmly on the lever to pierce the Automatic QC bags. Place the cartridge on the system and push firmly on the raised dots until the cartridge locks into place. Slide the cartridge connector to the left to close it. The Wait screen appears while the system prepares the cartridge. Replace the Sample Port When prompted by the system to replace the Sample Port, touch the video icon to launch the video: Squeeze the tabs on the Sample Port firmly and remove from the system. Squeeze the tabs on the new Sample Port and install it on the system. Wiggle the new port  from side-to-side to ensure it is attached correctly. Touch the Continue Button after the new Sample Port is installed. Clean and Disinfect the Screen and Exterior Surfaces The touch screen and exterior surfaces should be cleaned as needed. Before cleaning the touch screen, select the Clean the Screen button located on the Status screen. This freezes the screen and prevents any activity on the system.  The Clean the Screen icon appears for 20 seconds. Using a 10% bleach solution, moisten a lint free cloth to clean the screen.
