epoc® Blood Analysis System Performing External Liquid Quality Control Video

epoc® Performing External Liquid Quality Control video includes identifying how to perform QC on the epoc® Blood Analysis System.

Performing external liquid quality control on the epoch blood analysis system. Quality control procedures are used to verify the performance of the epoch system. Follow facility requirements for frequency of quality control testing. Assemble items to be used for running controls. To run controls, gather the following. Aqueous control fluids. One milliliter or three milliliter syringes. Blunt tip needles value assignment data sheets or Vads. Gauze. Aqueous control fluids. Refer to the control package. Insert for storage requirements. The control fluid must be at room temperature prior to using. Syringes one syringe for each level of control fluid being tested. Recommended playing one CC or three CC syringes. Needles. 16 to 20 gauge regular or blunt tip needles are recommended for use to aspirate the control fluid. Go to siemens.com/epoc to download the current data sheets. Value assignment data sheets are required with quality control testing to ensure all analytes fall within the expected ranges. Value assignments are specific to the control lot and the software when upgrades occur. Each value assignment Datasheet or VAD is identified by the fluid name level. Lot number an sensor configuration version ensure all information is correct when using of ad to determine acceptability of your results. Some data manager systems may have the ability to validate the QC results electronically. The epoch system sensor configuration version is located by tapping on the I icon on the login screen. Log into the epoch system as described in Module 3. Performing a whole blood test. After a successful login, the Epoch host will search for available epoch readers. To connect to host an reader, double tap the Epoch reader icon. Once the epoch host connects with the Epoch reader, switch to QA mode by tapping on the tools button in the bottom left corner of the Epoch host display screen. Select switch to QA from the menu and confirm that QA mode is displayed. If QA mode is not available to select, check with facility epoch, System Administrator or the EOC manager for access to this feature. Insert a new test card to begin the test. Match the lot number on the ampule to its value assignment Datasheet. Enter the lot number by scanning the barcode on the sheet. The lot number may also be entered by using the keypad or keyboard. Under the second icon, the dropdown box allows you to select the type of solution you are running. Quality control calibration, verification, proficiency or other. Tap on the test selection icon to confirm all tests that need to be run are selected. Immediately before use, shake the ampoule vigorously for at least 15 seconds to re equilibrate the gases with the solution. One shaking the ampule. It should be held between the thumb and the index finger. Allow bubbles to rise before opening. The ampule, then swirl the ampule gently to return the solution to the bottom of the ampule before opening. Once calibration is complete and the epoch system indicates it is ready to accept the sample, open the ampul by holding it with the colored dot facing up. Snap off the neck of the ampule in the opposite direction of the color dot. Refer to your quality control package insert. In order to preserve gases in the fluid, immediately transferred the fluid from the ampule into a plain syringe by slowly aspirating it through a large bore needle or blunt tip. Carefully draw over one milliliter of fluid from the bottom of the ampule. During the draw, air may remain an trapped between the syringe plunger, in the fluid. Never attempt to expel it. Keep the syringe vertical to ensure that any air bubble trapped near the plunger doesn't move through the fluid, thereby contaminating it. Remove needle, then expel a few drops from the syringe. Apply the syringe luer into the test card sample introduction port as during a normal blood test procedure. Steadily dip rest the syringe plunger with a single smooth continuous motion until prompted to stop. Analysis of the control fluid will begin. One results display. Compare each value to the value assignment Datasheet range. Tap on each result tab as needed to view control results. If your results are outside the specified ranges, refer to the troubleshooting and error messages section of the Epoch System Manual. To begin the next test in QA mode, insert a new test card and follow this same procedure. When all testing with the Epoch reader is complete and all data entries are made, the test is closed by tapping on the Red X at the top right to close the epoch reader screen for that reader. Tap on the logout icon, Green Arrow pointing to an open door to disconnect from the AC reader. Note that closing the test permanently saves the test and changes to that test are no longer possible.
